Call for Art: Portraits

Ignite Studio at the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers has opened a call for art for “Portraits,” a summer art exhibit that includes an opportunity to participate in a “Portrait in Day” competition. Pablo Picasso, Kehinde Wiley, Mona Lisa, Frida Kahlo and YOU! Share your favorite portraits (of yourself or others) in Ignite’s next exhibit. We are seeking art in a variety of mediums including painting, sketching, collage and mixed media for this group exhibit.

ABOUT “Portraits” and “Portrait in a Day”

This summer expert portrait artist, Eleanor Giron, joins Ignite as our eighth Maker-in-Residence. In conjunction with her residency, we will showcase a variety of works in the genre of portraiture, especially self-portraiture. Along with your submission of work, you have the opportunity to participate in a Portrait in a Day Competition* on Saturday, June 18.

Portrait Artist in a Day Competition:

  • Artists will set up easels around a notable Indiana person in the Ignite space.
  • Artists will have 4 hours to complete a portrait.
  • Patrons will be able to observe artists at work.
  • Model will get to choose one of the portraits to take home.
  • Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top artists decided by our Resident Artist and staff.

*Artists that submit to this exhibition are not required to participate in the Portrait in a Day Competition.

Deadline to submit is Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

CALL FOR ART: Portraits — SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Submit all required materials as a single pdf document via email to hurstk@hepl.lib.in.us.

  • Name and email address
  • 1 – 3 images of work for consideration
  • Painting, sketching, collage and mixed media are all accepted
  • Each image should include the following information:
  • Title of work
  • Material/Medium
  • Size
  • Price

NOTE: All pieces must be wired for hanging

ADDITIONAL CALL FOR ART INFO

Artwork should be dropped off on the appropriate dates as specified by Ignite Studio upon notification of acceptance of work. Artwork on display in Ignite Studio can be sold by the artist. Ignite does not take commission or handle any transactions. Work that is sold must remain on display through the duration of exhibit and will be marked with a red dot upon notification of its sale from the artist.

Artwork will be displayed in Ignite Studio, located on the lower level of Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers.
